Best Activities To Do In Lake Norman Before Summer Ends

Nicole Leininger August 22, 2022

Autumn is right around the corner, which means there’s no better time to get outside and enjoy the summer weather before the leaves begin to change. Whether you live in the area or you are planning an end-of-summer getaway before the kids head back to school, there’s no better way to soak in the last weeks of the warmest season than by taking part in Lake Norman summer events.

Read below for inspiration on getting the most out of Lake Norman summer activities as the season comes to a close.

5 Activities To Do In Lake Norman Before End of Summer

Outdoor Movies

Summer nights and outdoor movies in Charlotte, NC just feel right together. Few things can compare to spending a warm, relaxing evening with the family watching movies by the lake at an open-air cinema. The season may be approaching its conclusion, but there are still more than enough opportunities to view free or cheap outdoor movies at Lake Norman this summer.

Cornelius’ “Outdoor Cinema Series” and Huntersville’s “Movies in the Park” are excellent options if you are looking to view outdoor movies in the Charlotte, NC area. Both offer free admission to the public and have concessions available for purchase. You are permitted to bring your own picnic baskets and coolers if you wish. Be sure to pack something to sit or lay on, whether it is a blanket, chair, or even a bean bag, as the ground may not provide the best comfort!

Farmer’s Markets

Lake Norman farmer’s markets are a valuable source of fresh, locally grown food and a great avenue for customers to engage with the community while supporting local farmers. The most prominent markets in the Lake Norman region include Josh’s Farmers Market in Mooresville, the Davidson Farmer’s Market, and the Huntersville Grower’s Market. Each of these markets offers a wide range of items including produce, baked treats, meats and fun activities.

Festivals

Looking for great Lake Norman summer events? Look no further than its local festivals. Area residents and visitors alike can enjoy beer, food and live music at the “Second Saturdays @ D9 Brewing”, which take place on the second Saturday of each month through September.

If you are a car enthusiast, you’ll definitely want to check out the hottest cars in the area at Street Car Saturdays. This local auto show is held on the first Saturday of each month and welcomes people of all ages with hot rods, live music, and food trucks. Those over the age of 21 may also enjoy the first-rate beer selection.

Concerts

There is nothing like experiencing an outdoor concert around Lake Norman. Take your family, friends, or just yourself to hear free, live music in the great outdoors. If you’re searching for the perfect way to fill your Friday evenings, do it with musical performances at “Live Under the Oaks” every Friday through October.

Another must for outdoor concert lovers is “Concerts on the Green” in Davidson, which takes place on the first and third Sunday evenings of the month through mid-October on the town green in front of the Davidson Public Library.

Activities

Even with the season’s end approaching, there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy Lake Norman summer activities.

Make your Mondays great again by taking your family and friends to “Music Bingo Monday” every week at Primal Brewery in Huntersville. The music playlist includes hits from various decades, theme songs from your favorite television shows and more. And if you happen to be one of the lucky individuals who shouts “BINGO!” you could even win a prize!

Get your fitness on at the “Be Well Birkdale” workout classes in Birkdale Village in Huntersville every Tuesday until October. The class instructors vary from week-to-week, which means each workout session is unique.

If you have a competitive side that needs feeding, make your way down to the “Social Corn Hole League” on Tuesdays in Huntersville. There are no entry fees, no weekly commitment requirements, and players of all skill levels are welcome.
